"The decision by two Richmond-area Republicans not to seek reelection to the House of Delegates has given Democrats a pair of open seats to pursue during an election year with a large number of contested General Assembly races."
Melissa Dart Earns the Support of Virginia Professional Fire Fighters
July 28th, 2017 HENRICO, VA - “I am honored to receive the support of the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters” said Melissa Dart. “Our firefighters, paramedics, and other fire personnel are on the front lines of keeping Virginians safe. When we are at our most vulnerable, it is these brave men and women who put all fear aside and charge toward danger. I look forward to having the privilege of fighting on their behalf in the General Assembly.”
“The Virginia Professional Fire Fighters are dedicated to working with and helping to elect members of the House of Delegates who are committed to the belief that public safety, and especially issues that deal with Fire and EMS are a core service of Government,” said VPFF President Robert L Brag III. “We have over 7000 members in 65 locals across the Commonwealth. The Virginia Professional Fire Fighters are proud to endorse Melissa Dart for the House of Delegates. Melissa's views reflect the issues our members hold dear, and are important to keeping the citizens of the Commonwealth safe."
Republicans Continue to Stall on Healthcare -- Virginians Need Leadership Now; Melissa Dart VA HD-56
by Melissa Dart (Daily Kos)
This week I had the unique experience of sitting on a eight candidate panel for a forum hosted by the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce. There were six Republicans and two Democrats, including myself. Each of us are running for our respective party’s nomination for the 56th House of Delegates seat. We had a respectful and interesting conversation on a wide array of topics, and I was struck by several things. But what really stood out was that each of the six Republicans, without exception, espoused the same dangerous ideas and rhetoric surrounding healthcare that we are hearing at the federal level.

As a career educator, having served as a teacher, principal, central office staff member and specialist at the Virginia Department of Education as well as a school superintendent, I know the counties of the 56th District well and believe Melissa has unique qualities to serve these counties with passion and dedication. She has pledged to work for the benefit all children. Again, I fully support her candidacy. Please support Melissa Dart for the 56th District delegate seat.

Following the retirement of Delegate Peter Farrell [R-56th District], a number of candidates have thrown their hats into the ring to vie for the open seat in the Virginia General Assembly district, which contains a portion of Henrico’s Far West End.

More than 50 Democrats running for the Virginia House of Delegates have signed a pledge saying they will “never” accept campaign contributions from Dominion or Appalachian Power, a sign of growing opposition among the Democratic base to the influence energy utilities wield in Richmond.

The 56th district went for Republican Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election by 56.43% to 38.74%, so it will be quite a challenge for our “blue” friends, but not insurmountable! Given the President’s current approval rating at or under 40%, as well as the growing unfavorability of Rep. Dave Brat in the 7th Congressional district, the chances of a major upset may be increasing.
